reblogging a post I posted awhile back…just because the comment above. Suffered?

I thought Antichrist was an overlong, gratuitously violent, pretentious mess of a film. And despite its overt attempts to make some sort of comment on misogyny, all it ended up doing was subjecting its female character to the same hateful scenarios you’d find in any horror movie, with the added bonus of tapping into the distrust and dehumanization of women that’s run through Christianity for centuries. There is a difference between commenting on a harmful cultural trend, and perpetrating it; von Trier crossed that line. 

And of course, different strokes, I’m sure there are people out there who thought it was thought-provoking and challenging. But I’m not really buying what they’re selling.
